The internet is littered with thousands - literally - of search and metasearch engines and services. Some of the smaller search services can indeed be important for particular niche markets, but the vast majority of web searches are performed by the top ten search engines.

• Automated submission services and software. These have their place - particularly in reaching the thousands of lesser search engines that account for the missing 5% coverage - but they do not replace manual submission to the top engines
